SSL Plugin
Download SSL Plugin
Version: 0.9.8j (OpenSSL build)
Approximate Download Size: 622K
Description:
The SSL Plugin allows POP3, Imap and SMTP accounts to send and receive encrypted data instead of as plaintext.
The server must also support SSL or TLS. This plugin is not used by Webmail services for which login
information is already sent in an encrypted format.
By default, most E-mail clients send your login and password in plaintext to the server. Since this may
be a security risk, users may choose to encrypt the data with SSL if the server supports it. Because of
the overhead required for an SSL connection, data connections and transfers will be slower when using SSL
vs. a non-SSL connection.
Notes:
For legal reasons, this distribution does not include certain Encryption Algorithms. The latest
distribution here may not reflect the most recent version of OpenSSL. Developers who want to create their
own builds should reference OpenSSL
Installation:
- Extract the 2 files (libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll) into the POP Peeper installation folder (typically, c:\Program Files\POP Peeper)
- In the main menu of POP Peeper, select Options / Plugins and make sure that "SSL" is checked.
- For each POP3 or Imap account that you want to enable SSL:
- Edit the account (select the account, press the "edit" button)
- Select "SSL" or "TLS" (to the right of "Server Type")
- Ensure the "port" is correct (for SSL connections, this is typically 995 for POP3 and 993 for Imap; for TLS, 110 for POP3 and 143 for Imap)
- For SMTP servers, go to the "Send Mail" tab and set to "SSL" (port 465) or "TLS" (port 25 or 587)
- Press "Update"
